Ann Lowe...Alabama's Kennedy Connection!

The Diva striking the pose is Alabama native Ann Lowe. The fashion designer who designed the most famous wedding dress known to man was a Black Woman from Alabama! Who knew?

Ann Lowe was born in Alabama in 1899. She moved to New York and studied design and became one of the "it" designers for the elite, fashionable women of New York Society. She was considered "Societies Best Kept Secret" because although they loved her designs, the "Society" women didn't want anyone to know their beautiful apparel was being designed by a Black Woman.

After Mrs. Kennedy had purchased several dresses from Ann, she decided to have Ann design her wedding dress. That dress became the most photographed dress in the world!

Following this achievement, Ann Lowe opened stores in Saks Fifth Avenue and on Madison Avenue. Today, we salute this brilliant woman!
